Grounded Forms: Fall Term Student Ceramics
This Fall 2025 student gallery presents a curated selection of work developed across wheel-thrown pottery and hand-built forms. The collection highlights a range of approaches to material, surface, and process, with a strong emphasis on glaze development, form, and function.
From expressive wheel-thrown vessels to carefully constructed hand-built pieces, the works on view reflect diverse technical strategies and individual sensibilities. Students engaged deeply with clay as both material and medium, testing glaze combinations, refining form, and responding to the effects of firing.
Select hand-built works draw inspiration from the philosophy and aesthetic traditions of master ceramic artist Shoji Hamada, particularly his emphasis on honesty of materials, balance of form, and the quiet beauty of functional objects. These influences are interpreted through a contemporary student lens, resulting in work that feels both grounded in tradition and personal in expression.
Together, this selection reflects the rigor, experimentation, and craftsmanship that define our Fall term, offering a window into the evolving practices of our students and their ongoing relationship with clay, glaze, and process.
